You don't have to be in crisis to want help thinking something through.

Jen Goldstein is a licensed clinical social worker on Chicago's North Shore with more than twenty years of experience — working with women through the transitions that reshape a life, and with the teens and young adults in their families.

Life Transitions

Some seasons don't just change your schedule — they change who you are. The months after a baby arrives can bring anxiety, intrusive thoughts, or a flatness that no one prepared you for. Perimenopause and menopause can shift your sleep, your mood, and your sense of yourself while people tell you it's just hormones. Divorce can undo the shape of a life you built. A career that once fit can start to feel like someone else's. And early adulthood can arrive with more freedom and less footing than expected. Jen works with women moving through these transitions, at whatever point you've reached in them.

Relationship & Family

Much of what's hardest happens with the people you're closest to. That might be a relationship where you've become the one who manages everything, or where speaking honestly feels riskier than staying quiet. It might be parenting — loving your kids and still finding the behavior, the guilt, and the daily friction genuinely hard. It might be conflict that keeps circling back to the same argument, or a teenager who has grown harder to reach. Jen works with individuals on these relationships, and with adolescents directly, drawing on years as a middle school counselor before entering private practice.

Mood, Stress, & Coping

Some of what you carry doesn't attach to a single event — it's simply how the days feel. Anxiety that runs ahead of you and won't let your body settle. A heaviness that makes ordinary things take more than they should. Stress that has stopped feeling temporary. Or older experiences that still shape how you respond to the present, long after they've passed. Therapy is a place to understand what's driving these patterns and build steadier ways through them.

Yes. Jen works specifically with women and specializes in many women's issues including postpartum, perimenopause, individual relationship work, divorce and other areas to reflect that. She also sees adolescents and young adults. A free consult is the easiest way to find out whether she's the right fit.

Yes. Jen sees adolescents and young adults, with evening appointments available so sessions don't have to compete with school and activities. Before private practice she spent years as a middle school counselor, and much of that work informs how she meets teens now.

You don't need a diagnosis or a crisis to start therapy. Plenty of people come in because something has felt off and they would simply like help thinking it through.
